eHEALTH MODEL

The Newfoundland and Labrador Centre for Health Information (NLCHI) is the provincial lead for a shared services approach to manage eHealth services across the health care system.

eHealth is the electronic, communications and technology tools used to share health and administrative information.

In 2018, NLCHI’s legislation was updated to reflect its new accountabilities for eHealth services and delivery for the four regional health authorities.

On October 2, 2019, accountability for eHealth services were transferred to NLCHI.

The goal of the Provincial eHealth Model is to deliver a single provincial eHealth team responsive to the health system that:
  • Delivers modern and innovative digital health tools and solutions
  • Enables enhanced clinical decision making
  • Improves health care delivery and patient safety
  • Establishes one patient – one record in all clinical settings
  • Supports health system planning, and
  • Empowers patients with access to their health information.
