The Research and Evaluation Division carries out applied health research that is relevant to health policy decision making by government, healthcare managers, and program planners. The research also provides information to clinicians and the public to assist them in their decision making. Staff prepare reports at the request of government, Regional Integrated Health Authorities, as well as for academic and private interests.
Staff in this Division are trained in community health and epidemiological research methods, including quantitative and qualitative analysis techniques. They use provincial databases maintained by the Centre to produce information in a broad range of health areas.
The Research and Evaluation Division also has expertise in evaluating e-health systems and supports the development of a provincial EHR through the study of patient and system benefits of EHR initiatives.
Seniors needed to participate in study
The Centre for Health Information is recruiting seniors to participate in a study. The study will examine medication use among seniors living in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Seniors who volunteer to participate in the study will receive a visit from a pharmacist in their home. During the visit, the pharmacist will review their medications with them, as well as ask some questions about the health services they use.
The results of the study will be used to evaluate the impact of the Pharmacy Network on improving patient care in Newfoundland and Labrador. The Pharmacy Network is the Newfoundland and Labrador drug information system. Drug information systems provide physicians and pharmacists with data to support appropriate and accurate prescribing and dispensing. (click here for more information on the Pharmacy Network).
