The Client Registry is a provincial information system for identifying patients and clients. It is a cross-referenced index of numbers (i.e. identifiers) assigned to patients and clients by the health system, including: MCP numbers; hospital number; file number; and computer generated numbers.

Common identifiers are essential in today's healthcare environment to support each organization's daily operations in the delivery of care to patients, providing service to clients over many sites, administrative processes, support services, record keeping, and information systems. A unique number, which is specific to one site or provider, is not adequate to support the provincial health system in Newfoundland and Labrador, or any large jurisdiction.

The Client Registry assists in:
  • Timely and accurate identification of individuals at registration for services provided by health authorities and pharmacies;

  • Up-to-date demographics;

  • Up-to-date eligibility status for provincial health insurance (MCP); and

  • The ability to generate and provide reports (e.g. births and deaths) to stakeholders.
