Quality information is mission critical for NLCHI. The Data Quality and Standards Division of the Clinical Information Programs Department:

  • Provides leadership for the development and adoption of standards that govern data collection, processing and interpretation in support of regional, provincial and national health information systems, including the NL EHR.

  • Develops and maintains key databases and acts as information manager for datasets provided to NLCHI by other organizations. It is in this role that DQS manages most the identifiable data and survey information held by the Centre (currently in transition); collaborating with EHR Operations to provide data in a de-identifiable format to Research and Evaluation (R&E) for use.

  • Improves and evaluates data quality, which is assessed along five dimensions: timeliness, accuracy, relevance, comparability and usefulness. Initiatives are undertaken in partnership with stakeholders to continuously improve the quality of data available within the health system.

  • Supports data users regarding appropriate code selection, interpretation, quality issues, and appropriate use of data elements for a specific research purpose.
