About Data Quality and Standards

This division is responsible for developing and promoting use of data standards for financial, statistical, social, demographic, diagnostic, therapeutic, and procedural data collection in the health sector, and ensuring that this data is uniform in definition, measurement, collection, and interpretation. This division is key in the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of information standards in a provincial integrated health information system. Many of these standards are developed with, or mirror national standards, which ensures comparability and consistency of data across the health system.
Key standards include: CCICD-10-CA and the Standards for Management Information Systems in Canadian Health Service Organizations (MIS Standards). CCICD-10-CA are advanced coding systems that will ensure that health information collected is clearly defined and consistently captured for clinical, statistical and research purposes. The MIS Standards is the data standard used across the continuum of the health service delivery system to ensure the standardization of provincial financial and statistical data related to the operations of the health boards.
